Sculpture Introduction:
Titled ‘Minima | Maxima’, this modern metal sculpture is a large public art sculpture located at the Expo 2017 site in Astana, Kazakhstan. Standing 43 feet tall, the large metal sculpture is designed to keep people busy during Expo 2017 A moment of contemplation in the venue.
Design Concept:
Commissioned by Epazote Sa. Vladislav Sludskiy’s design is a multi-layer composite: three layers of flat stripes (white and white with pink) are built in series, supporting each other as they assume curvature and add height. The original authors call this method “structural stripes.” Among them, a walk-in form is created or described by thousands of parts, each of which is unique. Individual parts are digitally cut from flat aluminum and held together. This creates curved shapes and structures and creates a physical reality.
The Function of the Sculpture:
This is a site-specific installation made from a combination of 5,312 ultra-thin powder-coated strips, each strip constructed from 1/8-inch powder-coated aluminum. Through this installation, visitors are transported to a bizarre sci-fi world where they could even interact with dynamic structures.
